Colnect is a free online catalogue of collectors of just about anything. The stamps section is very extensive. The site is supported by advertising or a small donation will provide a premium membership with no ads. An excellent resource and highly recommended. Colnect recently issued a free app for mobile phones that allows you to use the camera function to identify those stamps that are giving you trouble. It works very well.

Stampworld is another excellent free stamp catalogue. It has the advantage over many paper catalogues in that it illustrates all the stamps in the set making it very useful for identification. One disadvantage is that it separates stamps into different sections so if you are looking in postage stamps and the stamp you are looking for is a postage due, you will not find it there.

Adrian Keppel's blog and database of engraved stamps and the people who produced them. There is at least a decade of good reading here.

Another site for those who think engraved stamps are a cut above the rest. This site collates the known information on engravers, designers and printers of 15000 different designs and slowly growing.

Most of the larger catalogue companies also offer an online paid version. Gibbons charge about £40 a year for theirs which is based on their standard catalogue rather than the specialised versions. With the rising price of the printed version, this is attractive to many collectors. Hopefully, in time they will do the same with each of their specialised catalogues as many philatelists only collect a limited number of countries.
